Recycled Knits Move From Niche to Baseline
Post-consumer yarns have quietly closed the gap on hand-feel, and the mills quoting them are no longer charging a premium for the privilege.
Why the hand-feel finally caught up
Mechanical recycling used to shorten the fibre, and short fibre means a rougher yarn. Newer blends carry a proportion of longer-staple virgin fibre through the spin, which holds the surface together without giving up the recycled claim.
What to ask for at sampling
Ask for the blend ratio in writing, a wash-tested swatch and the certification number rather than the certification logo. All three take a day to produce and settle most of the risk.
- Blend ratio, stated as a percentage by weight.
- Post-wash swatch, not a pre-wash one.
- GRS or RCS certificate number you can verify yourself.
